The song was written by singer-songwriter-guitarist Boz Scaggs and singer-songwriter-keyboardist David Paich. Part of the inspiration for this song came from the shuffle beat of Fats Domino’s song “The Fat Man.” Both Scaggs and Paich liked the idea of a song about a drifter who wants to make that one big score. The song was first released on Scaggs’s critically acclaimed 1976 album Silk Degrees. It was released in 1977 as a single, backed with “We’re All Alone,” and charted well. “Lido Shuffle” went to #11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #2 in Australia, #5 in Canada, and #13 in the U.K.
On the track were Boz Scaggs (lead vocals, guitar), Fred Tackett (guitar), David Hungate (bass), Jeff Porcaro (drums), David Paich (keyboards, Moog synthesizer), and a horn sections. Soon after this, Paich, Hungate ,and Porcaro formed the band Toto.
Boz Scaggs had been with the Steve Miller Band in the 1960s and then went solo, having several big hits in the 1970s and 1980s. Scaggs continues to tour and perform.
