Country Rock
The song was written by Phil Everly, and The Everly Brothers recorded it in 1960. They had a Top 10 hit with it when it went to #8 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and #4 in the U.K. Linda Ronstadt covered the song, giving it a woman’s point of view regarding the heartache of love. (But who wouldn’t love that face?) She released it on her 1974 album Heart like a Wheel and as a single in 1975, backed with “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore.” Ronstadt’s version surpassed the Everly’s on the charts, rising to #1 on U.S. Hot Billboard Hot Country Singles and in Canada; it went to #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
