Rhythm and Blues
The song was written by the team of Dino Fekaris and Freddie Perren. They left Motown Records in the 1970s and traveled to Los Angeles, where they formed their own production company. The year 1979 was a big one for them, as they had #1 hits with Glora Gaynor singing “I Will Survive” and Peaches and Herb’s “Reunited.” Fekaris and Perren also had success that year with Peaches and Herb’s “Shake Your Groove Thing.”
Peaches and Herb released “Reunited” as a single in 1979, backed with “Easy as Pie” and on their 1978 album 2 Hot! For them, it was a sequel, as it were to their cover in 1968 of the song “(We’ll Be) United,” which was originally recorded by The Intruders. It was Top 50 hit for Peaches and Herb. Anyway, “Reunited” went to #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, U.S. Billboard R&B chart, Cash Box, and in Canada. It was #2 in The Netherlands and New Zealand, #4 in the U.K. and #8 in Australia.
Peaches and Herb are a duo. There has been only one Herb, who is Herb Fame, the professional name of Herbert Feemster. There have been several different Peaches. The original was Francine “Peaches” Hurd Barker. Linda Greene is Peaches on “Reunited” (and “Shake Your Groove Thing). Fame had retired from the act in 1970, went to the police academy of Washington, D.C., and joined the city’s police department. He re-entered the music business in 1976. Peaches and Herb have continued to tour and perform. Fame says, “I want to work till I die. I don’t believe in retirement.” Go Herb!
